STEPISTA v1.0.5 - Installation Guide

FIRST: close your DAW. Windows cannot replace a plugin
that is currently loaded.

Fresh install:
Copy the whole Stepista.vst3 folder to:
  C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\

Upgrading from an older version:
  1. Close your DAW.
  2. DELETE the existing Stepista.vst3 folder from
     C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\
  3. Copy the new Stepista.vst3 folder in its place.
Do NOT merge folders or choose "Skip" when Windows asks --
the plugin includes a required WebView2Loader.dll and all
files must come from the same version.

After installing, reopen your DAW and rescan plugins.

DAW SUPPORT
tested = verified by the author
expected = should work, not verified yet

  Ableton Live 12 VST3 (tested)
  FL Studio VST3 (tested)
  Cubase / Nuendo VST3 (expected)
  Bitwig Studio VST3 (expected)
  Studio One VST3 (expected)
  Reaper VST3 (expected)
  Other VST3 hosts VST3 (expected)

In Ableton Live use VST3, not AU: the AU build can't route
MIDI to another track in Live.

HEAR IT - STEPISTA SENDS MIDI, NOT AUDIO
Stepista is an instrument that outputs MIDI notes. Nothing
sounds until that MIDI reaches a synth or sampler:

Ableton Live 12 Add a second MIDI track with an instrument
on it. Set its MIDI From to the Stepista
track, pick Stepista in the chooser below
it, and set Monitor to In.
FL Studio Open Stepista's wrapper settings and set a
MIDI output port. Load an instrument and
set its MIDI input port to the same number.
Other DAWs Add an instrument track and set its MIDI or
note input to the Stepista track, or drag
                    the clip onto it.

Any DAW: the "Drag to DAW" bar at the bottom of the plugin
drags the pattern as a MIDI clip onto a track with an
instrument; its "Save .mid..." button writes the file
  wherever you choose.

WHERE TO DROP THE CLIP
Ableton Live 12 A MIDI track (Arrangement view) or an empty
                    clip slot (Session view)
FL Studio The Piano roll or the Channel rack. The
Playlist does not accept the drop.
Cubase / Nuendo The Project window (arranger), on an
                    instrument or MIDI track
Bitwig Studio The Arranger timeline, on an instrument track
Studio One The Arrangement view, on an instrument track
Reaper The arrange view, on a track with an instrument

Requirement: Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime
  Stepista's interface runs on WebView2 (pre-installed on
Windows 11 and most Windows 10 machines). If Stepista
shows a message screen instead of its interface, follow
the guidance on that screen -- it names exactly what is
missing and how to fix it.
  Runtime download (free, from Microsoft):
  https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=2124703
After installing the runtime, restart your DAW.
